When people talk about persuasion, they often think in terms of persuading other people. Although this is certainly
true, how we influence and "persuade ourselves" is equally important, and ultimately determines what we believe in and
the ways in which we behave.
What we think and the way in which we think, creates the different states we experience. Often people will talk about confidence, motivation and relaxation as if they are "things" rather than the way in which we experience what we perceive.
What You Can Expect from Nick Kemp Training events
When I train individuals or groups on the subject of influence, I focus on the following areas
- Generating States - How we can identify and get in and out of useful states
- The Power of Language - The way in which we use language in influence
- Rapport Building - Connecting with others
- Delivery Systems - The different ways in which we can communicate
- Strategic Thinking - Developing effective strategies for successful communication
These trainings are highly interactive and my role as a trainer is to provoke useful insights and realizations from the workshop attendees. Often I will use audio and video recording in these events so individuals get to see and hear how they come across to others and are then able to become more effective and precise in their communications. The key areas I include in relation to language are
- Suggestive Predicates - phrases that create client attention
- Sensory Rich Language - Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic language
- Command Language - Language that directs attention
- Elicitation Patterns - Language to elicit information
- Failure Patterns - Language patterns that communicate failure and lack of trust
