I come from a background of marketing and sales and in my early days of working in the corporate sector attended many trainings. The problem with many of these trainings was that they were all too often very generalised and with good intentions, but not geared to real life business.
Problem solving and strategic thinking
I worked for 15 years in the recruitment sector which was a true baptism of fire in learning about problem solving. Often what is taught in public trainings bears no relation to what happens in real life. My sales and customer sevice trainings make all manner of assumptions about how to work with clients. This means that clients are often subjected to very robotic and stereotypical approaches. Yes, there are lots of great tools that can be used effectively in business, but its important to focus on real life results and that means figuring out “the difference that makes the difference”
I have been lucky enough to run trainings all over the globe and that has taught me that success in business is about developing great precision in strategic thinking and use of language. Awareness of language patterns is essential in connecting with other human beings and especially in developing rapport and in all areas of influence.
